The New Biz Post 2 - Being Ahead Of The Game
Yesterday I made my first post talking about the new business model I was creating and got some awesome feedback. You can see that post at imtruth.com/im-truth-newsletter/the-new-biz-post-1
I got from a reader that was complaining that I could do this (meaning build a business from scratch) super easy because I already had all the skills, and a list, and on and on and on.
So today, I’m going to back up a step, and tell you what it takes to build a business, and then we’ll continue on with what I am doing….
So first off, I know Internet marketing inside and out. How? Years of buying every product I could get my hands on, reading and using those products, and putting what I learned into use.
You do have to invest. No money to invest? Then I suggest you read “Six Figure Freelancer”. ( www.ThisKicksButt.com/6FigureFreelancer ) For $37 it will show you how to make extra cash doing odd jobs for people who really need them.
Like for instance www.Guru.com It’s a freelance sites that allows people who need some kind of computer job done (web design, graphics, articles, and a crap load of other tasks) to post the job and then freelancers come and bid on those jobs.
It’s a great way to make extra money, and if you have no money to invest in your business, this is a great way to get started. I did it from the time I was 15 till I was 18. I built websites for people as a freelancer.
Great way to get some extra cash comin in.
Okay, so the first rule is you have to educate the crap out of yourself on everything about marketing and whatever your niche is. I kill two birds with one stone because my niche is marketing.
Okay, so there’s where I got all my knowledge. I’m no super genius, and I didn’t go to college for this stuff.
Next, I implemented what I learned.
I learned that I needed a list of subscribers. Now I have a list of buyers which is much better, but one thing at a time.
By having a list I can send out emails whenever I want and make money.
No hype. Just a fact….
So your first step when building your business is to build a list. I personally don’t know of any all in one list building course. I plan on developing one very soon at www.ListBuildingNewbieVideos.com
Until then I recommend that you at least learn to get a squeeze page up. My friend Erik Stafford has an awesome product that will teach you to do that via easy to follow videos at www.ThisKicksButt.com/FasterWebmaster
Basically all list building is simply….
1. Building a nice looking squeeze page (Example: IMTruth.com)
2. Driving traffic to that page
You got to learn 1 and 2 to be able build a list. It’s that simple.
Basically you can get all the technical knowledge you need from Erik’s Faster Webmaster product, and my www.ResellRightsForNewbies.com (which is totally free). You’ll get different information from both sites about all kinds of technical aspects of running your business.
Okay so I got my marketing knowledge from constantly reading and using the marketing information products, my technical skills I learned online. What else?
A mentor…
You’ve got to find one person, latch on to them and follow them. Mine was Jimmy D. Brown. He’s got a butt load of amazing products, and has hands down taught me more than any marketer online!
Side Note: If you want to suck some great information out of Jimmy’s brain on the cheap, then I highly recommend that you head over to www.TheBestOfJimmyDBrown.com right now. You can download totally kickbutt reports (on several marketing topics) from him for a very small fee.
These three things…
1. Knowledge
2. Technical skills
3. A GOOD mentor
Will get you to the level of success that I have achieved.
Okay, so no more whinning. I’ve told you guys how to do it. Go do it!
From here on out, I’m just going to be showing you how to build a business from scratch. You’re armed with what I know, so there’s no reason you can’t do it too!
To your success!

Nice writing. You are on my RSS reader now so I can read more from you down the road.

LIz,
I enjoy your material and have actually bought stuff from you. I benefit from both free and paid advice. I have yet to make a lot of cash strictly from net activities though I do market my art on the net and do very well with that. My thought here is that many get this idea - I know I did - that you know something special - you do, but what you know you share, it’s stuff your students can implement. You have this special key to riches and the rest of us flounder. My thought is that the special key is willingness to put shoulder to the wheel and nose to the grindstone when necessary coupled with a genuine desire to help others. Thanks, Beau
Everybody brings with them different backgrounds and different skill sets. These are things people should use to their advantage, not be upset that others have different skills sets than yourself.
In your case Liz, I disagree with the individual who wrote you. Personally I think it would be MORE difficult for a person in your situation to “start over”. Yes, you do know the steps you need to take, but you also know HOW MUCH WORK it was the first time!
The hard word I am putting in now, I am not looking forward to repeating anytime soon. LOL!
Hi liz
Great post !! You hit the nail on the head with this one.I’m following along with while your build a new business.I am also learning from Eric Holmlund through his videos at http://www.ericstips.com
You both tell it like it is without the fluff. Keep up the great work.

I have been a subscriber, customer, and affiliate for Tomey Marketing for a while now and you always get straight to the point, AND no B.S., I have learned so much….THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU…can’t wait to see your next post.
Hi Liz,
I love the “no BS” style. Telling it like it is, direct and to the point!
It makes your instructions very easy to follow. You had given me some help awhile back which I have put to good use and am still steadily working at. Thank you!
I look forward to keeping up with these posts as the content is straightforward, making it easy to follow the step by step instructions. A valuable tool for anyone looking forward to future success and…
A definate two thumbs up!
Karla
It looks like you got out of the wrong side of the bed here Liz.
Perhaps your next post will be gentler.
Pete.
I first want to say how angry I am. Not at you, ME. I got your name from an email ages ago. Went to your site, like what I saw and signed up to receive info from you.
BUT, did I follow up. NO! Have tons of STUFF on my hard drive gathering bird dander and dust. (Got 6 parrots)
Due to one thing or another, I procrastinated towards my path of success.
I once asked someone who I was talking to “What part of Success are you afraid of”, when they were walking away from something that could really take off had they put a bit more effort into it. Boy, what a phony! I need to ask that question of myself, but since I have no answer, it would be further foolish of me.
I am trying to follow a new path. I have a need to prove to noone but me that I can start something - AND FOLLOW THROUGH - on it.
Thanks for coming back to my life-path.
Teresa
