Devon Case Study

Last week I opened my one-on-one coaching at www.MarketingForREALPeople.com and got to talk to my first coaching client today…

Side Note: I have had 11 people sign up so far. That means I only have 9 spaces left. If you want to be part of this, you need to get in now. There is a monthly charge, but you don’t have to use me month after month. There is no commitment. :) I’ve added a “Try Me Before You Buy Me” option at the bottom of the page now, and also some other payment options. www.MarketingForREALPeople.com

I’ve taken what we’ve talked about, and created a great case study for you to learn from!

Devon’ Back Story

Devon is no newbie. She’s had some success selling on eBay in the “good ole days” (back when you could sell digital products on eBay), and currently has three niche sites. One of which is making her about $2000 a month.

Devon is looking to increase her income to the $5000 a month level and that’s what she’s hired me to help her with.

She wants to generate money in different ways from different sites. She however wants to do it without creating her own products and services. That leaves here with making money from Adsense like options, or affiliate marketing.

So today we got on the phone and went over her three niche sites.

Now I can’t give away her niches, so we will call them Niche A, Niche B, and Niche C.

Niche A is the site that is making her about $2000 a month. She’s using Adsense and InfoLinks.com (which is an In Text Advertising Service).

Niche B is a site that’s not doing much now. It just needs some traffic so we can see how much income it can make. She will also be using Adsense and InfoLinks.com

Niche C was a real chore. :) Now I can tell you that this is a site in the dog niche. She had several different things going on with this site.

She was trying to build a list
Trying to earn money from Adsense
Trying to earn money as an affiliate
Trying to earn money selling resell rights products related to this niche.
Trying to money via her own products related this this niche.

I went over everything she had and took “inventory”.

Having everything on this site was accompishing nothing. When you create a niche focused site, it should focus on one thing. Be it….

Creating an income with Adsense
Creating an income with Affiliate products
Creating an income via building a list and marketing to that list.

With Devon’s site, she didn’t have a great domain name. For all that she wanted it was too niche. So, we have decided to get a broader niche domain name, rebuild the site on it, and use the site to do nothing but build a list in this niche.

She will be using Aweber to build this list and loading that list’s autoresponder with messages selling affiliate products, her resell rights products, and her own products for that niche.

This is just one example of how you can successfully use a content site in marketing what you want to sell.

Devon now has a clear plan, and once we work together she will be well on her way to her $5000 a month income goal.

I hope you’ve learned a lot from what I’ve covered here.

Devon’s long term plan is to use me this month to get her sites in order, and get a traffic plan to create on going traffic to her sites. She’ll then take a month off from coaching with me, and then the following month come back to reevaluate what she has going, and add more income streams at that time.

She’s working smart by getting her already up and going sites making money/more money, and then will add income streams as she needs to.

What Can An Internet Marketing Coach Do For You?

I’ve written this post to show you how a marketing coach can help you save time, save money, and get you to making money quickly.

A few years ago a gentleman came to me in total frustration. He had bought every marketing product under the sun and was still not making any money.

As soon as I heard the words come out of his mouth… “Liz, I’ve bought everything, but I’m not making money”. I basically knew what his problem was.

He had bought so much stuff, but wasn’t doing anything with it. He had information overload in the worst way.

So I got on the phone with him and asked him a few questions…

What are your hobbies?
What do people say you’re good at?
What are your favorite things to do?

Basically he said he had no hobbies, and never did anything. All he wanted to do was make money online to be able to quit his job and travel.

Well it turns out, one of his hobbies was traveling, his favorite thing to do was travel, and people loved the pictures he took when he traveled.

If you don’t see where this is going yet, just wait.

With that one statement, I had an entire plan created in my head for this man.

I told him he needed to start a blog. Blog about all of his travels and post all his pictures on it. For a few weeks he did this, and absolutely loved it. He had placed some Adsense ads on his blog as I had told him to do, and had started making a few bucks a day.

Not enough to get him to the quitting his job level, but he actually made his first money online ever, and he had been trying for over 4 years.

So after I taught him blogging, the correct way to do it, and had him making money, we talked about creating products for the travel niche. He wanted no part of that. At the time anyway…

So I talked him into promoting products as an affiliate he agreed, and we went to work creating an affiliate marketing plan for him.

He built (I should say paid to have built) 5 additional websites promoting 5 different products. These were simple squeeze pages, that got people to give up their name and email address in return for a free offer. They were hooked to an autoresponders that had promotional email messages and content promoting different affiliate products

He took the Adsense ads off his blog and replaced them with ads for his squeeze pages. Almost instantly instead of getting money for Adsense clicks, he started getting subscribers to his optin pages which turned into affiliate sales.

He was now making more money than with Adsense…

Next we created an advertising plan for the 5 squeeze pages.

He stuck to this plan and worked on it each day for a few hours.

Within 2 months this man was making double what he had with his job. 4 months later he quit his job.

He now travels, blogs about those travels, and makes an awesome income as an affiliate marketer.

He pays me $497 a month religiously because of the success he has had with me, and we still talk 4-6 times a month.

Over the last several months, we have been talking about product creation. Now at first he was dead set against it because he hates to write, and has no other skills to create any other type of products.

I’ve now taught him about outsourcing product creation, and his first product is due out in November of 2008. It’s a product all about getting paid to travel.

So basically, this guy went from buying everything, and not making money to living the lifestyle he wants and making even more money.

That’s what a coach can do for you.

If you’re willing to listen, do what you’re told, and learn, then a coach can save you a ton of money and at the same time get you to the money making level you want to be at.

If you’re looking for one-on-one Internet marketing coaching, I have just opened up a coaching program at www.MarketingForREALPeople.com

Coaching Case Study #2 - Laura

Okay guys, I have posted another coaching casestudy here. This one is for a coaching client named Laura. Laura is a webdesigner and is wanting to make money teaching several people to build profitable websites instead of building them for a few people.

It’s exactly what I did. :) I used to be a web designer too, but you can make a lot more money teaching than doing it for people in most cases.

Laura, has a good grasp of things, but she is worried about competition mainly and what to teach people.

In this casestudy, I’ll show you Laura’s business model and walk you through how you can be doing the same thing.

Check out the video at www.tomeymarketing.com/coaching/laura1

I’d love to hear your feedback on this, or if you have any questions. Just leave your comments below…

Coaching Case Study #1 - Karla

The other day, a coaching client of mine and I were talking on the phone. Her name is Karla, and like many of you she has “pieces” of the puzzle here and there but just needs some help getting things rolling.

Karla has agreed to let me use her as a case study, so that everyone can learn from what I’m teaching here. Below you will find the on going help I’m giving Karla. I would love to have your feedback about this casestudy also. If you like this, I’ll do more in the future….

Here is the first email that Karla sent me….

=====
Hi Liz,

It was great to talk to you last night. Here are my pieces—

sales letter; www.homesecurityandmore.com

download page; xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

web site; www.help-with-home-improvements.com

blog; www.doctoryourhome.com/myblog

squeeze page; www.doctoryourhome.com

So I guess I would need to prioritize things like posting blogs, adding to the website, article writing, generating a newsletter (since I have a newsletter sign-up on the site!),

I guess I’ll put a welcome message in my autoresponder today and start generating the newsletter when I get some sign-ups. At some point I thought I should do (maybe make - I mean ask - (lol) my husband to do it) a squidoo lens. It seems like a lot of juggling and that I am not focused enough on one thing—but I am thinking it might just be because a lot of things take extra time what with being a newbie and all!

My biggest goal, I would think, would be building a list. I am trying. I have been using adwords—$5/day—not much but at this point it would be very difficult to pay for more. I have posted only a couple articles to a couple of article directories and just joined a couple of home improvement forums that have a resource box. Not sure what else to do except keep trying to put out articles and such. I know I need traffic.

Oh, my product is supposed to be $97. I changed it to $67 for some reason a month or two ago but can’t remember why, maybe so I could say the price is going up after launch?

Also, should I give away products to my big list of 18 or a few of them in exchange for testimonials/feedback?

Plus I had ideas for bonuses, some during and some to stay or change after the launch.

This is probably enough info for now, if not let me know and I’ll produce some more!!

Thanks Liz, I’ll talk to you soon, Karla
=====

I took her email and did a video reply to it… You can watch that video at www.tomeymarketing.com/coaching/karla1

After Karla looked at the video I sent her, she had a few more questions. Here is her second email….

=====
Hi Liz,

Thanks for going over all that stuff—now I have my questions….and clarification for me!

Also I don’t mind at all if you use me for a case study—it would be great to be able to help some other people out, I’m sure I can’t be the only one starting from square one. It’s taken me almost a year to teach myself to get even this far!

To start with my squeeze page is the www.doctoryourhome.com page. I made it by following the simple instructions from Tellman Knudsen’s pre-launch videos and used a downloadable template provided by him and Shawn Casey. Before that I only had a hover-pop on my sales page www.homesecurityandmore.com Did you think the copy was ok on the squeeze page? It sounded to me like you would like me to add some graphics to it?—to make it look exciting and captivating? Should I also offer a newsletter sign-up? (Then I’ll have to make sure and create a newsletter!—I was thinking perhaps bi-weekly)

The www.homesecurityandmore.com page is the first one I created as a sales page for my product. It is a home improvement kit. It contains 3 e-books (actually 4 with the “Low Cost Home Improvement Guide” bonus), one on home security, one about decorating on a budget and a third about home organization. I also offered a free e-consultation with Al for the 1st I forget how many that buy the kit. And I can give them a free subscription to the newsletter (the one I will create!). If you saw nothing on the sales page it was because it was down briefly as I had to change the sub-domain name and let it re-populate. (I make the occasional (lol) “boo-boo” and have to re-do things now and then.) That took a little while.

Also I did check the home improvement stuff on Clickbank and saw the prices. I think I’d like to keep the price at $67 then as it is a kit rather than one e-book. Do you think I can provide enough value for that??? I’m sure I need to do a lot of tweaking on my sales page before I put it up on Clickbank.

The help-with-home-improvements.com is the content site. I plan on keeping adding to it, it is only just started and I am doing it with the Sitebuilder on Hostgator. I could get someone to do a much better job but I’d rather wait until there is a lot more content up!

The reason the name for the thank you page for the product is so long and has the help-with-home-improvements thing in it has to do with my boo-boo that made me have to change my subdomain name and I didn’t want to change the thank you page name and lose it somehow.

Do you want me to get the adsense ads off the blog? I can do that. The reason they are there is because the theme I picked had them on so then I made an adsense account so that they would be relevant to my site and so if someone clicks on them I would get credit for it. Maybe if I change my wordpress theme they will go away?

Should I be blogging about any kind of home improvement stuff I want? You said the whole point of the blog is to send them to the squeeze page and build a list. Is there a special way to do that or do I just put up a really big headline at the top saying “GO TO MY SQUEEZE PAGE AT………AND OPT IN!!!” (just kidding) or do I just reccomend the mini-course or newsletter in every post and tell them where to go to get it?

You know my list is up to 23 so I think I’m ready to launch now.

Not really. Should I send an offer to the list right now while it’s still small—and would I offer it (the kit) for free in exchange for the feedback/testimonials? Should I only offer it to 10 first, maybe the first 10 that signed up? I can also ask a “most burning question” about home improvements as well.

Well Liz I hope you have a great weekend. I think I covered most of my questions.

Take Care, Karla
